URIAH HEEP Performs At Germany's Rottenburg Prison; Video Available

July 25, 2008

Legendary British rock band URIAH HEEP played one of the most unusual shows of its illustrious career on July 24 when it performed a free gig for the inmates of Rottenburg prison in Germany.

Housed in a former castle, the prison also acted as the location for the German launch of URIAH HEEP's first new album for ten years, "Wake The Sleeper".

The concert was being funded by the local city administration said the prison's director Wolfgang Willard.

The band played for one hour in front of about 500 prisoners, and actually had declined to receive a concert fee.

URIAH HEEP has been successful since the beginning of the '70s, with hits like "Lady In Black" and more.

"Considering the number of prisoners attending this gig, this can be considered a first," said Willard, who also emphasized the importance of such an event for the inmates.
